The war between a handful of senators and the Social Security Administration continues — this time, with the number of projected field-office visits next year in the crosshairs.
The Social Security Administration reportedly wants to cut the number of visits to field offices in half in fiscal year 2026, with no more than 15 million in total, and move more individuals to self-service online options, according to a Nextgov/FCW report that cited the agency’s internal planning documents. Senators are now pushing back on the Social Security Administration for clarity on its plans.
